Community Outreach OYAP Grant
Community Outreach OYAP Grant

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) provides Special Funding through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) to Ontario School Boards on an annual basis. The purpose of these funds is to increase awareness and interest in the Skilled Trades.

In the Fall, Mr. Hayes and Mr. Catt applied for and successfully received a Community Outreach grant. As a result, students in 7/8HP and 8C are learning about the exciting careers in the skilled trades by engaging in hands-on learning based on the four skilled trades sectors: Motive Power, Service, Construction and Industrial. Students will also be connected with and be mentored by TPS community members who work in each trade sector. For example, a project for Construction may be led by a parent who is a carpenter. A project for Motive Power could be led by an Automotive Service Technician. The mentor will also discuss experiences in their trade area.

Students have spent the last two weeks working through Tinker CAD and the design process by designing more comfortable workspaces for students.

Stay tuned for regular updates about this exciting opportunity for our students!
